A spellbook normally comes with 25 pages of parchment, and each spell takes up one page per spell level (one page for up to five 0-level spells). A newly purchased spellbook contains no spells.
A preparing arcane character typically begins to play with a spellbook containing five cantrips and three 1st-level wizard spells of the players choice.
A character with the scribe scroll feat can add new spells to their spellbook through the process of copying a spell into it. Writing a spell into the book works as scribe scroll but only costs half the as much as scribing a scroll cost.
